Meet Your Celebrity Instructor - Raghav Sachar  (Biography in  Nutshell)

  • Raghav Sachar was born in Calcutta, India, to R. K. Sachar and Usha Sachar. 
  • Raghav is the youngest among three brothers and sisters. 
  • At the age of four, he began playing the harmonica, which was his first instrument. His parents have given him an instrument every year since then. 
  • Raghav was grown in a household of musicians, and he was always interested in music.
  • In 1994, he was named Best Drummer at the Pepsi Cornucopia tournament in Delhi, as well as Best Keyboard Player at the BITS Pilani Festival. 
  • He was picked by the Indian government as their envoy in Russia for a cultural exchange program when he was 15 years old.
  • Before going to Monash Conservatory of Music in Melbourne to study music in 2000, he created a band, Canzona, with other mates and traveled all over India, performing at important venues such as IIT institutes, BITS Pilani, and others. 
  • Raghav attended Mount St. Mary's School in Delhi Cantt.
  • He majored in Jazz at Monash University and studied Music & Composition and Performance with the main instrument being the saxophone and the minor instrument being the flute. 
  • Raghav traveled South East Asia as a "One-Man-Band" during this time, performing in Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
  • Raghav has also taken classes at Boston's Berklee College of Music and London's Trinity College.
  • While in India, he performed solo concerts and collaborated on CDs with Viva and Shubha Mudgal, in addition to recording jingles for Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Sony Walkman, and other commercials and film soundtracks.
  • In 2000 and 2001, he received the Golden Key Award and the Earnest Award for academic excellence from Monash University. 
  • He was called a "Born Genius" and was featured in National Geographic's "My Brilliant Brain," a worldwide television series. 
  • Since 2003, he has played live for over 2000 public, corporate, and private events.
  • Raghav can now play over 36 different instruments.

Raghav's Albums - 

  • His first album, "Raghav- For The First Time," was released in 2003 by HMV Records, and he followed it up with three more albums issued by Universal Music in 2005 and 2007.
  •  Raghav's albums "24 Carat," "Play It Loud," and "Charming Lootera" were all commercially successful in India. 
  • Hon'ble Ministers Kamalnath and Jaipal Reddy launched "Vande Mataram" in 2010.

"Raghav Sachar Productions," which was founded in 2011, focuses on films, live events, and music videos.

Raghav's work in Films -

  • Raghav made his debut as a music director in 2005 with the film "Kabul Express," produced by "Yash Raj Productions."
  • Since then, he's written music for films including "One Two Three," "Bittoo Boss," and a slew of others.
  • Salaam Namaste, Parineeta, Dhoom, Kaal, Hum Tum, Yehaan, Black Friday, Kal Ho Na Ho, and Don are just a handful of the Bollywood blockbuster films in which he played various instruments. 
  • Till now, Raghav has appeared in over 150 films.

  • Raghav has worked with A.R. Rahman, Vishal Shekhar, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Salim Sulaiman, Anu Malik, and Pritam, among others.
  • Dave Weckl (International Jazz Drummer), Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Kailash Kher, Shankar Mahadevan, Adnan Sami, Shubha Mudgal, Neeraj Shridhar, Kunal Ganjawala, Sivamani, Taufiq Qureshi, Louis Banks, Ranjit Barot, and others have all recorded and performed with him.

Performing and other projects—

  • In 2004, He performed at Madame Tussauds (London) for Satyapaul. 
  • In 2006-2007, he traveled to Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom as a Cultural Ambassador on behalf of the Indian government. 
  • In 2007, they were the main act on a 26-city concert tour called "Idea Rocks India." 
  • In 2007 and 2009, he performed at the Waldorf Astoria in New York for award ceremonies for the overseas Indian community.
